School Board Member Spotlight School Board Member Interview ~ Jodi Laney 1.) How did you decide that you wanted to be on the school board? And how long have you been on the school board? There was an opening in my area for the school board and I was encouraged by others on the board to run for the position. I felt that it was a good way to serve my school and my community. 2.) What does a successful school board look like to you? A successful board looks like one that works in harmony with the school administrators to make sure we are doing things that benefit everyone involved in the school. There are so many parties within the school from staff, to students, to administration, to school patrons that most decisions are not one size fits all. It is part of our job as the board to make sure that decisions we do make have the most impact all involved. 3.) Tell us a little bit about your family. I am married to my husband Larry of 23 years, we farm near Verona. I work for AgCountry Farm Credit Services as a Senior Insurance Specialist, I have been with AgCountry for 21 years. We have 2 kids, Emersyn is a freshman at NDSU and Austin is a sophomore here in LaMoure. 4.) What interests you most about our school community? I have really enjoyed hearing about the impacts that starting the Loboe Packs in high school has had on our students. It is fun to see the additional peer relationships that have occurred because of them. 5.) If you could give advice to anyone what would it be? Always find the best in people and in life, have a great attitude, and SMILE!! Be willing to grow and change, just because something has always been done a certain way does not make it the best or only way. Find the innovations and support others that have a growth mindset. Everyone has something to offer. You are a star to serve the LaMoure School District. Thank you for all that you do! LaMoure Public School ~ 2023

School Board Member Spotlight School Board Member Interview ~ Holly Braun 1.) How did you decide that you wanted to be on the school board? And how long have you been on the school board? I was appointed to the board in February of 2013. I decided to be on the board because I wanted to get a better understanding of how schools are funded and how decisions are made. 2.) What does a successful school board look like to you? Five people with varying opinions who can come together to make the best decisions for our students and school. 3.) Tell us a little bit about your family. I have been married to Eric for 23 years and we have 2 children. Lane is 20 and lives in Fargo with his girlfriend, Bailey. Brooklyn is 17 and is a junior at LaMoure. 4.) What interests you most about our school community? The education and opportunities for the students. 5.) If you could give advice to anyone what would it be? You are in charge of your life. Figure out what makes you happy and do what you can to keep it that way. Administrator Spotlight Administrator Interview ~ LaMoure School Laura Shockman: Elementary Principal 1.) Tell us about a professional success story that you’re proud of. A professional success story that I am proud of is my teacher's and their student's state test scores. Last year we had a single-digit number of students in the novice category. Our highest category was proficient. We almost had an equal number of students who scored in the advanced category, which speaks volumes about the instruction that the teachers are providing. This is because we are relentless when it comes to reaching all students. Every student, every day. 2.) What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career? One important lesson I have learned is to make sure that your students see you smile. It's important for them to know they can count on you for a hug, and a cheerful "good morning". Another lesson I have learned is that a career in education goes beyond the classroom. It's the hours that no one clocks, the work that no one sees and the self-motivation that can make a difference. The school day hours are game time, when and how you prepare and practice is up to you. A third lesson is to embrace a multitude of perspectives and opinions before making decisions, it is important for everyone to feel valued, each person brings talents that can enhance your own. 3.) Tell us a little bit about your family My husband, James and I have four boys, Harrison (5), August (4), Reginald (2) and Robie (2). We enjoy anything that involves rough-housing, goofing around and laughing. I am from Arizona where my mom, dad, brother and sister live. My mom and dad still live in the house I grew up in and I try to go back home as often as I can. This will be my 8th winter in North Dakota, and I'm still adjusting to it! 4.) What’s something that you’ve always wanted to try or learn? I would like to play the piano again. I played when I was young, but when soccer became an every-day activity for me, it didn't fit into my schedule. This one is pretty far out there, but I have had this crazy desire to climb to the base-camp of Mt. Everest. I've also wanted to complete the Tahoe 200, a 200-mile out and back trail run around Lake Tahoe and into the Desolation Wilderness. I'd also like to try and see, in-person, a World Cup final. 5.) If you could give advice to anyone what would it be? We don't stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing. Always play, always find ways to laugh. And, most importantly, BE NICE! You are the core 🍎 of our school! Thank you for all that you do! LaMoure Public School ~ 2023
