Teacher Spotlight Special Education Teacher: Mrs. Hoff Beth received her teaching license from Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN in 1993 with a double major in special education and elementary education. At that time, North Dakota was the only state that required a special education teacher had to have either an elementary or secondary education major in order to teach special education. She interviewed at both Fargo North and Dickey LaMoure Sped Unit, which is the one she, chose and it is now called James River Sped Unit. She completed her Master’s thesis in 1995. She taught grades 7-12 special education in LaMoure where she took one year off when she had all 4 of her kids at home…4 kids 4 and under was too much for this lady to manage along with a full-time job. She is originally from McIntosh, SD where her father was a Superintendent and her mother was an elementary teacher. She has 5 siblings where the 3 oldest are in the medical field and the 3 youngest are in the education sector. She has been married for almost 30 years to Wayne and they have 4 children. Katrina is a rescue nurse with the Sanford Hospitals in Fargo, ND. Rachel has less than a year left until she completes her elementary and special education degrees. Andrew is going into Business Administration and Lukas is going into Finance and all have attended NDSU! Now that she is an empty nester. She is starting to have more time to do arts and crafts. She enjoys reading, spending time traveling, being at the lake, spending time with both sides of the family (Seilers and Hoffs) and playing games…especially Spoons. Words of advice: Be kind to everyone because you never know what that person is going through and once words leave your mouth, they can never be erased! We've never seen your cape or mask, but we see your superpowers every day! Thanks for being a super teacher!

4th grade did research on their selected biome, learning about the plant and animal life in each. They then created their diorama representing each. I am always amazed at the creativity involved when they are limited to random everyday supplies.
