National Teen Driver Safety Week🚙:
In 2020, there were nearly 2,276 people killed in crashes involving a teen driver (30% were the teen driver). Make sure your teen knows the the importance of obeying the Rules of the Road: don't drive impaired or distracted, don't speed, limit passengers, and always wear a seat belt. #TDSW

Teacher Spotlight of the Week
3rd Grade Teacher Mrs. Jill Wagner who is in her 17th year of teaching. Her first year was in Towner, ND teaching Kindergarten. She then moved to LaMoure and is in her 16th year of teaching here. She has taught K, 1st, 3rd, and 6th grade. She is married to Ryan Wagner. They have four children between them both. They are Jade, Bailie (10th), Luke (7th), and Natalie (3rd). She graduated from VCSU with a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood. When she is not in the classroom, she enjoys reading, singing, camping, and fishing. You will also find her attending her children’s many activities. Advice she would give someone is to be true to you. It doesn’t matter what others are doing, wearing, or saying. You are in control of you and shouldn’t change who you are to fit into someone else’s life. We've never seen your cape or mask, but we see your superpowers every day! Thanks for being a super teacher!

National Teen Driving Week🚗
Did you know that - as a parent - you are one of the biggest influences on your teen's choices behind the wheel? Make safe choices while you're driving - don't drive impaired or distracted, don't speed, wear a seat belt...and encourage your teen to do the same! It will make them a safer driver. #TeenDriver

National Teen Driver Safety Week 🚘(October 16-22, 2022):
This week, and every week, parents should have conversations with their teens about the important rules they need to follow to stay safe behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. These rules address the greatest dangers for teen drivers:
º distracted driving (texting while driving)
º impaired driving (alcohol and drugs)
º inconsistent or no seat belt use
º number of passengers
º speeding
Even if you think they aren't listening, they are. Remember, set the rules before they hit the road 😌 (Courtesy of NDDTSEA)

Teacher Spotlight, 2nd Grade Teacher, Mrs. Holen
Mrs. Holen has been teaching for 7 years. All of those years have been as a second grade teacher. She taught in Carrington for 3 years and 4 years in LaMoure.
Mrs. Holen graduated with her teaching degree at Jamestown Universiy. She is married to Ben Holen and they have a four month old daughter named Eleanor.
Outside of school, Mrs. Holen enjoys reading, going on walks, and family time. Her advice to anyone is the following: "It's not how we make mistakes; it's how we correct them that defines us." The quote speaks for itself and applies to everyone from young to old.
Mrs. Holen, we've never seen your cape or mask, but we see your superpowers everyday! THANKS for being a super teacher!

Teacher spotlight of the week:
Mrs. Janell Mayer
Colony School grades Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd
Mrs. Mayer’s first teaching job was in Gwinner, ND. She taught 3rd grade and replaced a teacher who had moved away. The following year she was hired by Oakes Public School to teach Kindergarten. She spent most of her 11 years in the kindergarten classroom, but was also able to teach 1st and 2nd grade. Last year Mrs. Mayer began teaching at the Colony school for LaMoure. She taught math and science to all the grades, but this year she is focusing on Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade. She loves teaching the younger grades and feels that’s what she was made to do.
Mrs. Mayer has 2 sons, Adam and Cody. Adam is a freshman at NDSCS and is studying to become an electrician. Cody is a junior at Oakes High School and also works at Tornado Stop and loves running track as well as baseball.
Mrs. Mayer graduated from VCSU with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and minor in Early Childhood.
When Mrs. Mayer isn’t at work, she loves to hang out with her own kids, family and friends and she loves to go camping, swimming, traveling and any other adventure that arises. Her most adventurous trip was to Australia when her son ran in the “Down Under Race” for track. It is a beautiful country and it was an amazing experience, but one trip to Australia is enough for her. We were able to feed kangaroos, hold a Koala Bear and swim in the ocean during their winter. It was a great experience!
My best advice in life is to always treat others with kindness and respect. You never know what that person is going through and you might be the one person who can brighten their day!
