Teacher Spotlight, 2nd Grade Teacher, Mrs. Holen Mrs. Holen has been teaching for 7 years. All of those years have been as a second grade teacher. She taught in Carrington for 3 years and 4 years in LaMoure. Mrs. Holen graduated with her teaching degree at Jamestown Universiy. She is married to Ben Holen and they have a four month old daughter named Eleanor. Outside of school, Mrs. Holen enjoys reading, going on walks, and family time. Her advice to anyone is the following: "It's not how we make mistakes; it's how we correct them that defines us." The quote speaks for itself and applies to everyone from young to old. Mrs. Holen, we've never seen your cape or mask, but we see your superpowers everyday! THANKS for being a super teacher!

Teacher spotlight of the week: Mrs. Janell Mayer Colony School grades Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Mrs. Mayer’s first teaching job was in Gwinner, ND. She taught 3rd grade and replaced a teacher who had moved away. The following year she was hired by Oakes Public School to teach Kindergarten. She spent most of her 11 years in the kindergarten classroom, but was also able to teach 1st and 2nd grade. Last year Mrs. Mayer began teaching at the Colony school for LaMoure. She taught math and science to all the grades, but this year she is focusing on Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade. She loves teaching the younger grades and feels that’s what she was made to do. Mrs. Mayer has 2 sons, Adam and Cody. Adam is a freshman at NDSCS and is studying to become an electrician. Cody is a junior at Oakes High School and also works at Tornado Stop and loves running track as well as baseball. Mrs. Mayer graduated from VCSU with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and minor in Early Childhood. When Mrs. Mayer isn’t at work, she loves to hang out with her own kids, family and friends and she loves to go camping, swimming, traveling and any other adventure that arises. Her most adventurous trip was to Australia when her son ran in the “Down Under Race” for track. It is a beautiful country and it was an amazing experience, but one trip to Australia is enough for her. We were able to feed kangaroos, hold a Koala Bear and swim in the ocean during their winter. It was a great experience! My best advice in life is to always treat others with kindness and respect. You never know what that person is going through and you might be the one person who can brighten their day!

Teacher Spotlight of the Week: Mr. Rodney Kramer His first job was in Forman, ND at Sargent Central School. He taught 1st grade his first year there, and then 3rd grade the next 12 years. He then joined Oakes school and taught 1st grade his first year there and then 2nd grade the following year. Now he is proud to say "I am a Loboe" and he teaching 1st grade this year! His wife’s name is Cassie and she works at Benedictine St. Rose in LaMoure. They have 3 kids. Dawson (19) graduated high school last year. Avery (14) is a Freshman, and Corbin (12) is a 6th grader. He graduated from VCSU in 1999 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Coaching Minor. He really likes to play golf, fish, hunt, and watch his children play sports. His advice to anyone is to treat others how you want to be treated, try to learn something new every day, and remain positive because it’s not always as bad as you may think it is.
