Kota, Our Comfort Dog

Meet Kota, one of the most loved members of the Loboe family—and definitely the fluffiest.

Kota joined us in the fall of 2024 with a simple but powerful purpose: to make our school a little calmer, a little happier, and a lot more connected. As our comfort dog, she spends her days helping students feel supported, whether that’s through a quiet moment in the classroom, a quick hallway hello, or just being there when someone needs it most.

You’ll find Kota right alongside our school counselor, Kelli Isaacson, moving throughout the building and visiting students from kindergarten through high school. She’s part of counseling lessons, one-on-one check-ins, and even classroom time—usually curled up nearby, soaking it all in.

Kota has a special way of making people feel at ease. She’s a great listener (especially for students practicing their reading), a calming presence during tough moments, and the highlight of many students’ days. Recess often includes a line of kids waiting for “puppy pets,” and her name is one you’ll hear often in the halls.

But more than anything, Kota helps create connection. She gives students a reason to stop in, say hi, and start conversations they might not have had otherwise. Those small moments can make a big difference.

At the end of the day, Kota is more than just a comfort dog—she’s a friendly face, a steady presence, and a reminder that sometimes the smallest things (like a wagging tail) can make the biggest difference.
